Spotlight Christchurch, 258A Moorhouse Avenue
Spotlight is a popular fabric, craft and homewares retailer with over 130 outlets in 4 countries. The largest of these is the new flagship store in Central Christchurch.
With several buildings in the Harvey Norman Centre demolished after the 2011 earthquakes, Spotlight decided to build a new flagship store with additional retail tenancies to fill the space.
Construction on the 5,000 square metre, $15 million project began early in 2019. Baseline Group worked alongside the client's architects from Gravitas Consulting to bring the project to life, providing planning, surveying, resource consents, engineering and more.
Challenge
Projects of this size inevitably have minor complications that come up throughout the process, however, our team’s experience with similar developments meant we were able to resolve most issues quickly and without impacting timeframes.
One of the more significant challenges was the impact on traffic in the surrounding areas. The location of the site on a major city road near an overbridge meant that both site access and the impact on traffic were tricky.
Solution
The Baseline Group team provided thorough planning and surveying services from the start of this project and continued to play role in construction engineering and the final landscaping of the area.
And when it came to accessing the site and the traffic challenges that posed, our team managed to reorganise how the equipment could be brought onto the site and minimised the impact of traffic at peak times.
The result is a high-profile retail development, delivered on time and to budget.
